Why the neocons in the U.S. trying to use the NHS as a reason against the Health Reform?
The more recent line erupted after an editorial in Investors Business Daily (IBD) launched an attack on the British National Health Service (NHS) as a warning against what might happen if the U.S. adopted this model. "Controlling medical costs in countries like Great Britain through the rationing and the health consequences of it are legendary, "the article said." The stories of people dying on the waiting list or denied completely read as a horror movie script. "Author The article went on to assert that" people like scientist Stephen Hawking would have an opportunity in the UK, where the National Health Service say that the life of this brilliant man because of his physical disability, is essentially worthless. "As Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Jay Bookman the quick to point out, Professor Hawking was born in the UK, and has lived and worked there all his life. Most of what I've read and heard, in particular Daniel Hannan, Conservative MEP, are lies or exaggerations. For any Americans reading this my experience of the NHS has been more than positive and should not be criticized, especially when compared to the health service in the U.S.. Of course there are horror stories but they exist in all countries. I have only 18, but have had surgery 3 times. The first time was a supected and the tumor was treated in a week one for children (room that was about 8 at the time). The second time it was an appendicitis when he was 16. I woke up with considerable pain and after visiting to my family doctor (less than 2 minutes walk) I was diagnosed and referred to A & E (about 2 minutes by car) and was treated in the afternoon to have visited my family doctor about noon. In third place was a torsion (twisting of the testicles if you must know), which was extremely painful, and once I visited my doctor and late morning visited a specialist was successfully operated night. On the other hand my grandmother 80 years old, slipped and fell two months ago and after being taken to a hospital decided it needed a new hip. The operation took place the next day! After this happened about a month in rehab because of his being partially disabled by a previous stroke (which can walk, but not easy) at the expense of the NHS and has since has had two visits a day of nurses to care for her. I can not express how impressed I am and in fact all I know is about the NHS services. The strange thing is people can still get the private health care, even when there is a provision for a nationalized and are, in effect, competing with the NHS (free) for customers, is much more affordable than in the U.S.. So I can not understand why anyone would oppose this system. The NHS for most but not really like then just get private health insurance as you did before! Wheres the problem?!

WAC Double Features: Make Me a Star/Merton of the Movies (MOD) $19.95 Stars in their eyes – laughter in the aisles! Two famed funnymen portray small town hick and Hollywood hopeful Merton Gill in the comedic tale that was first a novel, a beloved (and periodically reprised) stage hit and a silent film. Stuart Erwin adds a wistful note to Merton’s Tinseltown dream in 1932’s Make Me a Star. Red Skelton shows his gift for turning situations into extended gags in 1947’s Merton of the Movies. Both films include star cameos: the Erwin comedy includes then-current luminaries (Tallulah Bankhead, Maurice Chevalier, Claudette Colbert and Gary Cooper), and the Skelton romp offers players whose glory years were in the silent era (including Chester Conklin and Franklyn Farnum). In the 1950s, Erwin and Skelton would reach even wider audiences in TV shows bearing their own names. |
